Using coins and notes (Money)

Reflection:It was easy to figure out the amounts and the right notes and coins.  

Meaning of words

Reflection:It was easy to identify the words but needed a tiny bit of help.  I knew a lot of the words but then the ones i didn't I could read the meanings and guess.

Wearable Arts

This year we created headbands, pois and a class piuiu (Maori skirt) for our Wearable Arts.  We combined Maori and Pacific cultures to send a message about "How Far Will You Go.... to save the oceans from plastic."  We used a Maori Version of the song from Moana

Describing a Setting/Character

This term I have been learning to describe a setting/character:
Success Criteria:

use describing words
use language features e.g. similes and alliteration,
use my senses (see, hear, feel,)
hook the reader into feeling what the setting/character was like


The sun is as bright as a chandelier and the grass as green as emeralds.  The waterfall splashes down a small hill that looks like a stone staircase.  The trees are waving in the wind like a bunch of people saying 'hi.'  The snowy moutnains are as big as giants and the clouds as puffy as cotton-tail bunnies.


The wolf was not the meanest wolf of all but he had a clever brain.  He sneaks as quiet as a ninja.  His teeth and claws are as sharp as spikes and his eyes are as red as lava.  Waiting in the forest for his dessert!  He's as fast as humming birds and not a normal kind of wolf and tricks people to their death.  Who dares to follow him?

Reflection:  I wrote about 5 similes.  I used some good describing words like snowy, bright.

It was hard for me to think about what I was writing about.  Zion 14.08.18

Making Music

In Term 2 and 3, we have been learning to make music using Boomwhackers.  It was so much fun.

Reading For Information

This term I have been learning to read for information, to summarise some main ideas and to use 'Poster My Wall' to present my facts.



Reflection: It was hard to find the answers to some of my questions.  Next time I might make my questions a little easer so I could find information. Zion 27.08.18

Adding 3 Digit Numbers

Reflection:  It was easy to work out the adding by doing it in hundreds, tens and ones.  I managed to make thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.  

My Reading Challenge

This term I have been learning to use a range of comprehension skills:
predicting, inferring, retelling, sequencing, vocabulary, making connections.



Reflection:  It  was hard to think of a connection when I read the Green Team.  I could read most of the stories, I was good at writing my prediction of what might happen next in Zapped.  It was tricky to finish it all.  Zion  26.06.18

Learning to Write Instructions

This term I have been learning to write instructions

Success Criteria:

• Instructions are in the right order
• I sequence the instructions carefully and clearly
• I use verbs in my instructions
• You can follow my instructions

Multiplication and Division

This term we have been learning how to use multiplication and division.

Football Fun

This term Room 18 enjoyed a soccer clinic.It was amazing fun!

Statistical Investigation

This term I have been learning to help with a statistical investigation
To do this I had to ask questions, tally, total, graph and make comments on the information



Reflection:  It was easy to all the tasks except for the tally because it was tricky insert them easily.  I could make some comments but only about the most and least.

Learning to Make Connections

In the Moths Reading Group we have been learning to...
Make a connection to what we read.

We know we can do this when...

• I can think of what it reminds me of, 
• I remember a time when I've seen or done this before

Writing: All About Me

This term I have been learning to:

• use a plan to help me record 3-4 ideas on a topic
• use capital letters and full stops correctly
• use Wordart to record words and phrases that describe Me!

I think I did great planning.  I can think of the ideas, sometimes I just like to write.  Doing the word- art was kind of fun I guess.   I thought of quite a few words.
